Living in Korea
Registration and reporting
Students staying longer than 90 days must register as foreign residents within the set period after arrival, and report every later change of address or school.
Who this applies to
Every international student staying in Korea for more than 90 days
What to know
- Registration gives you a resident registration number, which everyday services — phone, banking, healthcare — depend on.
- A change of address must be reported.
- Changing school or programme must also be reported.
- Extensions of stay must be applied for before your current period expires. Acting after expiry is too late.
How it works
Book an appointment at your local immigration office.
Prepare your passport, photographs, and proof of enrolment.
Attend and file the registration.
Report any later change of address, school or status as it happens.
Common questions
- What happens if I miss the deadline?
- Fines and other penalties apply, and it counts against you when you later apply to extend your stay or change status. If you realise you have missed it, contact your local office straight away rather than leaving it.
- Do I have to report moving from a dormitory to a rented room?
- Yes. Your place of residence has changed, so it must be reported within the set period. Missing this particular report is a common cause of trouble.
Take care
Much of what becomes unlawful residence starts not with bad intent but with a missed deadline. Students who apply through KoAdmit are told each deadline in advance and we file with them.
